M A Spooner Ltd values training and development as a means to equip our Delegates and Clients with the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes to meet the needs of their business. We recognise that such development is a continuing process for every Business Owner or Manager embarking on any programme of change. Training is seen as a necessary investment in order to provide excellent performance and create new, different and unique products, services or processes to meet the opportunities that a knowledge economy demands.

All courses take place in London and start at 9.30 am and finish at 4.30 pm, including refreshments and regular breaks. Each course includes case studies, group work and highlights the importance of applying knowledge learnt to your own business in order to embed concrete and measurable improvement.

1. Achieving Retail Excellence - Course reference No GWYT/1/H
This course focuses on the practical arrangements and strategies to formulate
a successful retail outlet, building on retail theory and emphasising continuous
marketing and attracting new customers through social media, rather than
relying on passing trade.


2. Management By Results - Course reference No GWYT/2/M
This course develops your management practise, how you can effectively
manage risk, exploit resources and develop your resilience. We emphasise
the importance of developing a professional culture, separating process from
outcomes to generate improvements in productivity and you will have the
opportunity to put in place a performance review system.


3. A Winning Strategy for Growth - Course reference No GWYT/3/S
This course develops your understanding of theories related to growth and
introduces the strategic pyramid as a mechanism to help you to formulate a
clear strategy. The course develops a framework to assist you to implement
your strategy and monitor its effectiveness.


4. Anyone Can Be An Entrepreneur - Course reference No GWYT/4/M
This course will explore the characteristics and skills that make up an
entrepreneur and how you can develop your leadership and management
practice to advance your business venture. We will help you to relate your
ideas to the opportunities in your industries / sector, forming and converting
these ideas into concrete actions in order to achieve success in a competitive
business environment.


5. Planning For Your Business Success - Course reference No GWYT/5/F
This course will give you the opportunity to work on an overall plan in order to
reduce risk and uncertainty so that your business venture will have the best chance
of success. You will be given the chance to plan your market research and start to
think about marketing, finance and how to formulate a strategy to drive your
business development.

The course will introduce some models that might help you to think about business
design, structure and identifying demand in the market set against your ideas
and aspirations.


6. Financing Your Business Venture - Course reference No GWYT/6/F
This course will give you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and
understanding of the importance of managing Cash Flow, through analysis
of your Cash Flow Forecast and Profit and loss Account Statements as they
are key to the financial health of your business venture.

You will be exposed to case studies and formula essential to understanding how to
manipulate your Cash Flow and Profit and Loss Account statements so as to maximise
profit and revenue whilst at the same time, minimising costs and risks.

You will develop an of the difference between capital and revenue expenditure and
identify the sources of funding needed to kick-start your venture or grow income,
clients, contracts or projects.


7. Attracting Profitable Customers - Course reference No GWYT/7/P
This exciting course will help you to create the essential momentum to drive
your business growth by introducing you to the theory and models needed to
construct your own marketing strategy so that high value profitable customers
can be attracted or targeted within your budget.

You will develop your ability to plan the development of your product or service,
using Spooner Associate's S.P.E.A.R. Model with some attention given to the
psychology of buying behaviour and practical time given to writing your
marketing campaign.


8. Innovate to Succeed - Course reference No GWYT/8/S
This course will develop your understanding of the concept of Innovation
Potential and how to write your own Innovation Strategy, exploring methods
of encouraging a culture of innovation within your business venture. 

You will be given the opportunity to look at different examples of innovative
practice and ideas and how to use and identify sources of new knowledge and
implement the Knowledge Creation Spiral within your operational plans.


9. Putting Your Ideas Into Practice - Course reference No GWYT/9/M
This course will give you the opportunity to integrate your action plans, notes
contained in workbook and business journal into a seamless outline business plan,
with a 2-year Cash Flow Forecast and Profit and Loss Account, survival budget and
implementation plan that will kick start your business venture.

The aim of this unit is to focus on practical actions that make trading a reality,
with you having removed or mitigated any barriers to enterprise and having a clearly
defined market; written a marketing strategy and putting in place a strong financial plan.

Group work will be used, but largely this course will involve you working on your
Business plan and completing all sections, with some time set aside to look at
funding sources.


10. People Are Your Best Asset - Course reference No GWYT/10/
This course will examine the employment relationship and the methods needed to
attract and recruit the right staff based on merit and good equality practice. You
will be given detailed information on current UK Employment Law and have the
opportunity to write your own draft Employment Contract and through case studies,
practice your skills in interviewing, welcoming a new member to your team and
identifying policies required for your business venture.

Time will be given to explore good team management and how to build effective
and productive relationships within your team to achieve high performance in line
with your business goals.


11. Upfront Leadership: Leading Change in Small Firms - Course reference
No GWYT/11/M
This course introduces 5 distinct leadership systems designed specifically for small
firms and enables delegates to evaluate their leadership practice using a comprehensive
inventory and combining group work with interactive examples of best practice underpinned
by academic and theory.

The leadership framework encourages delegates to strengthen their leadership style, looking
at Transactional Leadership; Transformative Leadership; Team Leadership; Task Leadership
and Talent Leadership.

An action plan across all 5 leadership systems will be developed on the course and this will
act as a basis for delegates to plan and improve how they lead their businesses and address
challenges in turbulent trading conditions.


12. Forming your Business Venture Course reference No GWYT/12/S
This course provides delegates with essential legal guidance on the various options on
business formation and the process of starting and establishing your business venture
within UK Law. 

The course focuses on putting in place appropriate contracts in the field of employment
and customer service to ensure that you can employ staff in line with current legislation
and that you provide your services and products in line with the Consumers Rights Act 2015.
There will be group work and you will be given the opportunity to use templates to structure
and outline what your employment and service contracts will look like, preparing you for
decisions that will underpin your business growth. This course will involve intensive and
detailed legal content, coupled with practical application using examples and case studies.
